Burnie 5km Event
With a view of providing an intermediate distance younger participants and those individuals unable to fully commit to preparing to complete 10km the committee introduced a shorter 5 kilometre event in 2015.
The race field of 433 participants started in Wilson Street outside the Council Chambers to ensure an accurate distance when finishing under the race gantry near Burnie’s Centrepoint Arcade.
Local runners Daniel Reeves and Emma Saint-John (who finished fourth over-all) were the inaugural race’s first winners.
In 2018 RACT became its first exclusive naming rights partner with a race record of 537 starters.
Launceston’s Sam Clifford holds our 5km race record with a 15:56 time in 2017 while Abbie Butler is our fastest female with her 18:43 in 2018. Sam and Emma Saint-John have been first across the line twice while both Abbie and Emma are our best-placed finishers with their fourths (in 2018 and 2015 respectively).
With even more emphasis on participation than the 10km race, our 5km version is perfect for participants of all abilities who wish to be part of the day without completing the longer distance.
